House of the Wolf Man is an American monster horror film produced in 2009 by My Way Pictures. The film was inspired by the Universal Monsters movies,[2] and was shot in the same style.

Plot[]

Dr. Bela Reinhardt (Ron Chaney) is a mad doctor who has invited five people to his castle to determine which of them shall inherit his estate.[3] He has arranged for a competition of sorts. The winner will be chosen by process of... elimination.

The visitors quickly realize they made a terrible mistake in accepting Reinhardt's invitation, but are trapped like rats in a cage under the watchful eye of Reinhardt's ghoulish manservant, Barlow.[4]

Cast[]

  • Ron Chaney as Bela Reinhardt[5] A mad scientist doctor who invited five people into his experiment.
  • Dustin Fitzsimons as Reed Chapel, a young blond hair man who appears to be a high school student as one of the victims alongside with his sister.
  • Jeremie Loncka as Conrad Sullivan, a genius and smart intellectual who thinks and often is cheery as one of the victims.
  • Sara Raftery as Mary Chapel, Reed’s younger sister. A girl with a “Plain Jane” personality and often screams when there’s trouble. Alongside with her brother, she becomes scared.
  • Cheryl Rodes as Elmira Cray, A beautiful femme fatale with a feisty and charming attitude. She becomes the only one who survives due to her being in the family bloodline and one of the people who are invited.

Production notes[]

House of the Wolf Man is an homage to classic horror films, shot in black and white and 1:33 aspect ratio (full frame).[2] It was made in 2009.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Universal film to have the Wolfman and his house.
  • This films shows the three most iconic monster characters in Universal history. Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf man.
  • Dracula’s brides made an appearance in the climax, only to eat Conrad alive in front of Elmira. Their faces appear to be ugly and scary looking. Unlike the traditional Vampire brides, they have a smaller role.
  • While it is unconfirmed or unclear, Elmira might be the main protagonist in this movie due to being the only one alive and being the bloodline. Due to her brave and fiery personality, she knows the clues about the castle as she listens to the poems about the whereabouts. Bela Reinhart is the main antagonist as he transforms into the Wolf man on the full moon. It is also clear that she might be chosen to be in the experiment due to the fact that she is the blood related of the cursed family. However, she manages to survived despite the others getting killed during the chaos.
  • Frankenstein and the Wolf man fighting is one of the scenes where Frankenstein usually follows someone or turn into a supporting character as Dracula and a werewolf creature fight. Frankenstein and Dracula switches roles in the movie.

Reception[]

James Zahn of Fangoria wrote "I think it looks like a lot of fun and can't wait to learn more". Infinite Hollywood reviewed the film for Halloween 2011, "This movie is such a good concept, horribly wasted. The dialogue isn't so badly written (with a few notable exceptions), but spoken by these stiffs it comes across horribly".[2]
